The Midas South African Single-Seaters bring the action and excitement of open-wheel racing to the Free State – and also to Snetteron in Norfolk, thanks to Jayde Kruger who is contesting the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship in the UK.
Kruger will be tackling round six of the 10 round championship season, with three races taking place on the same weekend as his local counterparts race at Phakisa in South Africa. Snetteron will be a weekend of chasing for the championship lead, regaining the ground lost at Croft in North Yorkshire in June.
While Kruger is in second place, he needs only to close a nine-point gap to again take command of the championship. Kruger has proved himself in the series this season and a good race weekend at Snetterton sees him with a strong chance at regaining the lead.
Here, at home, the SASS competitors tackle Phakisa Freeway for round five of the national championship where Nicholas van Weely (87 – Anglorand) is the current Formula Volkswagen leader. Defending champion Robert Wolk (1 – Midas / Chemical Logistics / ATE) will be working hard to close down a 17 point gap.
In third place Werner Scholtz (3 – Motorvia / Investchem) will have to keep a sharp eye out for Jason Campos (19 – Hollard Insurance) who trails by just three points. The fight for the third step on the podium could produce some of the most exciting moments of the Phakisa event.
The Formula 1600 championship is a close battle between Scott Temple (3 – Investchem) and Keegan Campos (02 – Hollard Insurance). The four point gap between them is indicative of the close fights they have been having on track this season.
Racing wheel to wheel and constantly fighting for track position, the pair are determined to take the championship fight to the very last round this year.
Rick Morris (08 – Investchem) holds the lead in class B of the series, with Ian Schofield (09 – Investchem) seven points back. Here again it is the action taking place on track that sees the two racers fighting through each lap as they race for the chequered flag.
The longer circuit that is Phakisa Freeway will see the SASS competitors committing to two races of high-speed action as they aim to start the second half of the season with a strong outing and a good haul of points for their championship goals.
