The fifth round of the 2014 Investchem Formula Ford Kent Championship takes place at Phakisa Freeway in the heart of the Free State Goldfields on 16 August 2014.
Last time the cars took to the circuit was at Kyalami just over a month ago. There Graham Hepburn (Suburban Body Shop Ray) took pole position and both heat victories to move up to third in the championship behind Ian Schofield (Investchem Mygale) and Matthys Strydom (Sage Talon).
With only three rounds of the championship left to run, the leading trio will be looking for every point they can muster in their quest for the 2014 title while the chasing pack will be trying to narrow the gap.
Best of the rest is Andreas Petrou (Investchem Reynard) in fourth place. He will be looking for a more successful outing at Phakisa than he had in the Formula 1600 national championship two weeks ago. His race meeting came to a premature end when contact with one of Phakisa’s unforgiving walls destroyed one side of his car.
Ben van der Westhuizen (Delta Rubber / Pioneer Plastics Royale) is just two points behind Petrou and will be looking to move up at least one spot on the championship log this weekend. The ever improving Andrew Schofield (Investchem Reynard), in his debut season in a Formula Ford, is a further five points back and will also be looking for a bag full of points.
Qualifying should get underway at 08h10 with the first of the two 8-lap races scheduled for 10h30. The lights should go out to signal the start of the second race at 14h00.
