The Investchem Formula Ford Kent Championship reaches the mid-point of the 2017 season on Saturday, 5 August when the competitors make their way down to Dezzi Raceway on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

After almost taking a full-house of points last time out at Phakisa, Dean Venter (Desco SA / Manitou Swift) now has a twenty-point lead at the head of the championship table. With defending champion Andrew Horne (Xena Chemicals / Budd Power van Diemen) not making the trip down to the coast, he will be standing next to one to his mates who is getting married the same day, Venter will be looking to extend that advantage.

While Venter might not have Horne to contend with, there are still a number of drivers who are more than capable of spoiling his plans. Chief among those must be David Jermy (Jacquet Racing van Diemen) who is in third place on the championship log. When the Kent brigade made the trip to Dezzi Raceway last year it was Jermy who returned with two race wins and, after a poor round last time out at Phakisa, he will be looking to repeat that feat this visit to get his championship aspirations back on track.

Consistent points scoring finishes have put Jeff Gable (Jacquet Racing van Diemen) into fourth place in the title race and he is likely to be a strong challenger on the KZN south coast, as is Alex Vos (Ecurie Zoo Swift) who gets back into the car campaigned by his dad with some success at the last couple of rounds.

Allen Meyer (Van Diemen), Dalan Holton (Debella Finance van Diemen) and Matt Nash are among the other drivers who could be challenging for podium positions on the tight 2.5 km long coastal circuit.

After several practice sessions on Friday, the 15-minute qualifying session starts at 08h40 on Saturday morning. The two races are scheduled to start at 11h30 and 15h10.
