The Festival of Motoring presented by WesBank returns to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from the 31st August to the 2nd September 2018. The Festival of Motoring, organized by Messe Frankfurt, is the only motoring show in Southern Africa supported by the motor manufacturers.
An added feature for the 2018 show is the inclusion of two national motorsport categories as part of the track content for the Festival. The Sasol GTC Championship and the Investchem Formula 1600 Championship will form part of an exciting track programme over the three jam-packed show days. “We are really pleased to announce the partnership with both GTC and Formula 1600 for the Festival, it will certainly add a competitive element to the show content” stated Shaun Swart, Festival of Motoring Show Director. “The Festival of Motoring provides a great platform for both categories to expose drivers and teams to a much wider audience. Over 65 000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s event” added Denis Klopper, Festival of Motoring Content Manager.
The races for both categories will form part of the respective National championships. Apart from watching the races during the show, visitors will also have access to a live-feed broadcast on various media platforms, including large screens, located at key points around the venue. Both GTC and Formula 1600 will also create an interactive pit area allowing show visitors unrestricted access to the cars and drivers over the 3 days of the show. “It is important for GTC to grow each year and reach more fans. Race and motoring fans will have access to our teams and drivers at the show allowing us to showcase the professional level at which GTC operates. Visitors will be able to see the cars up close and interact with the drivers in the Sasol GTC pit area” says Gary Formato, a Director of GTC. Investchem CEO, Ian Schofield, also expressed great excitement at being part of the show, stating that: “The Festival will allow us a unique opportunity to engage directly with a large audience. We are the premier single seater formula in South Africa and the series provides a great platform to showcase our local engineering skills and young racing talent.”
Apart from the National racing extravaganza, show visitors will also see both static and active content including Supercars, Classic Cars and Historic motorsport activations. Industry related companies will also exhibit at the event.
The Festival of Motoring will once again pay tribute to SA Motorsport Legends. Sarel van der Merwe will return in 2018 and has also been confirmed as the Grand Marshall for the 2018 event. “Sarel is a true South African icon, we are privileged to have him act as the Grand Marshall for this year’s event,” stated Shaun Swart.
OEMs will, as in previous years, have a range of vehicles on display. Show visitors will have the opportunity to self-drive various models on the Kyalami Handling Track or be professionally driven around the world class Grand Prix Circuit.
The Festival of Motoring presented by WesBank will be held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from the 31st August to the 2nd September 2018. Tickets for the event will be available from www.itickets.co.za in early April 2018.
